Life Management Skills
Each of the three elements of Collegiate Coaching Services (Academics, Community and Recovery) are supported by our life management skills coaching. Acquiring and mastering practical skills is a critical component in order for young adults to live independently. Feeling competent and capable of managing life’s responsibilities is the foundation for academic success, community connection and a successful recovery.
Our Coaches provide education, training, and accountability in the areas of:
Financial management
- Open checking and savings account
- Budgeting
- Learn to spend responsibly
- Pay bills on time
Organizational skills
- Learning and utilizing the transportation system
- Managing a schedule and attending scheduled appointments on time
- Follow through with the requirements of college and employment
- Checking and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner
- Effective time management & prioritization
- Managing medication refills
Independent Life skills
- Doing laundry, home/dorm cleanliness
- Apartment finding
- Effective communication skills with others, such as roommates
- Meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking
- Exercising regularly
- Healthy eating and sleep routine
- Allowing help from others and knowing when to ask for it
