Community Connection

Community & Social Connection

We empower young adults to develop a community of friends and peers by introducing them to what interests them, and to activities and events that challenge them to move out of their comfort zone.

For our clients with a history of challenges such as, social anxiety, depression, substance abuse and digital media overuse, connecting with a community of like minded peers and social activities are imperative in order to support recovery, increased confidence and feeling a sense of belonging. Face to face social connection is one of the most important elements for recovery from mental health challenges, substances and digital media overuse and addictions.

We have many resources in the Boulder area such as 12-step meetings, sober-related activities, as well as support groups for those engaged in treatment and coaching for digital media overuse issues.

Social Recovery & Connection

We will accompany our clients to the events of their choice to support them to attend and engage. Avoidance is a common coping strategy for our clients and reengaging socially can be an overwhelming endeavor. Coaches will attend activities and social groups with their clients as a way to expose them to anxiety provoking situations in order to support them to utilize the skills they learn in therapy and coaching in the real world. With the coach present, they are able to coach the client to remember and utilize their coping skills and communication strategies, as well as provide positive encouragement and feedback. Overall, our clients improve their sense of competence and confidence once they realize they are capable of connecting with others in a meaningful way.

Collegiate Coaching Services offers a number of sponsored social activities and groups each week. In addition, coaches provide direction and support for our clients to engage in the larger Boulder community, which provides opportunities for our clients to connect with those outside of CCS.
