Job Description – Executive Function and Therapeutic Coach

This job is an executive function coaching and therapeutic coaching hybrid position.

The executive function and therapeutic coach teaches and supports teen and young adult clients to strengthen executive function, life management, and emotional regulation skills, providing recovery support if indicated. Coaches also support students to navigate higher education institutions.

In this role, coaches carry a caseload of clients and work both one-on-one and in teams to provide coaching services to clients and their parents.

The executive function and therapeutic coach primarily works with clients on campus at CU Boulder as well as in the Boulder offices of Collegiate Coaching Services (CCS) and may occasionally conduct virtual sessions online for clients outside the local area.

CCS emphasizes professional development through individual and group supervision, ongoing clinical training, and a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities – Executive Function and Therapeutic Coach

The executive function and therapeutic coach must:

  • Keep up-to-date and accurate client records.
  • Plan and prepare ahead of time for coaching sessions.
  • Demonstrate a strong willingness to engage with parents and work collaboratively with them.
  • Provide updates to parents on their child’s progress and provide encouragement and additional support to parents.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and resources available at higher education institutions in the Boulder area.
  • Create and maintain a safe, healthy, and professional boundary with each client.
  • Engage with colleagues and supervisors to discuss strategies to help support clients.
  • In addition to direct client meetings, the position requires time devoted to individual and group supervision, team meetings, client collaboration meetings, and administrative tasks (e.g., writing notes, emailing, commute time, etc.) At times, this may also involve facilitating groups and social activities with our clients.
  • Continue personal development by learning new research and proven strategies to improve executive function, self-motivation, and more.

Job Hours

This position works an 8-hour shift Monday to Friday and weekends as needed.

We are seeking someone who lives near our location in Boulder, Colorado (within a 30-minute drive) as we recognize that long commutes can diminish the enjoyment of employment.

Qualifications

This coaching position requires the following qualifications.

  • M.A. in counseling psychology, community counseling, couple and family counseling, or related field OR Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, family relationships, or related field with formal plan to advance in the fields of mental health and education.
  • Relevant experience working with adolescents and/or young adults, parents/families in a therapeutic setting.
  • Skilled at organization, planning, preparing, and time management.
  • Desire to have a variable and flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours, although weekend hours are infrequent and not regular.
  • Comfortable working in person with clients, parents, and co-workers at our offices in Boulder, Colorado, on the CU Boulder campus, and in the Boulder community.

  • This position is ideal for those whohave recently graduated with a master’s degree in a counseling-related field or are currently enrolled or plan to enroll in a master’s degree program that allows for full-time employment. This unique employment opportunity supports counseling/mental health professionals interested in furthering their skill sets and abilities. The position provides supervision that meets the criteria to earn hours towards licensure for master’s-level coaches and CCS provides flexible scheduling to allow for attending classes online during the day or evening in-person classes.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn how to motivate clients to reach their potential, and want exceptional supervision from experts in the field of motivation, mental health, and overall performance.
  • Applicants who are a good match for this position are comfortable with and skillful in the areas of organization, planning, preparing, and time management. They prefer to have a variable and flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours, although weekend hours are infrequent and not regular.
  • The desired candidate can commit to a minimum of 1 year, and we are seeking team members who desire to be on our team beyond one year for consistent support of students who are often with us beyond one academic year.

Other Details

  • You can expect to engage face-to-face with clients on average 25 hours per week, plus additional face-to-face client hours as determined by your skill and comfort level.
  • Your work week includes individual supervision, team meetings, group supervision, and administrative tasks.
